Could the drought end in June?

Has anyone been paying attention to the Flyers lately? If not, it may come as a surprise to you that the Flyers currently are in a first place tie with the New Jersey Devils in the Atlantic division. Of course there is still a lot of hockey to be played and anything could happen, but the fact is that the Flyers have somehow put together a potential Stanley Cup contending team after a year that was the Flyers worst performance in their 40 year history. Just how bad was it? Well, with 30 games to go in 2008, the Flyers already have more points this year with 59 than they had all of last year after their hideous 56 point performance. A closer look at the standings shows that the Flyers have the third highest goal total thus far and have at least two games in hand versus virtually every team in the NHL. Also, after 48 games, the Flyers have only played just 22 home games, which is one of the lowest totals to this point in the NHL season. And the Flyers are hot. Just how hot are they? Try 13-2-1 in their last 15 games - now that is hot! With 59 points, games in hand and a favorable home schedule for the remainder of the year, the Flyers are in excellent position to finish strong and secure a favorable seed in the playoffs. Could this be the team to end the drought?

This blog will bring opinion and commentary as it relates not only to the Flyers, but any other Philadelphia major professional team that takes positive steps towards ending the 25 year championship drought. We'll also call out the bad moves in columns titled, "What are they thinking?" The way things are looking, the inaugural column will focus on the debacle that is shaping up to be the way the Phillies are handling Ryan Howard's contract for 2008. What a joke and we'll leave it at that for now.

Also, we will have fun celebrating championships that are ocassionally won in this city outside of the four major teams. For instance, I know it does not count in ending the drought, but anyone who was at either of the Phantom's Calder Cup clinching games in 1997 or 2005 know that it was a special feeling to witness a hard fought championship victory and those victories should be recognized at any level.

As this site develops, it will be supported with links, stats and video. Most imporantly, we want this site to be supported by commentary from the fine fans of Philadelphia. We're certain that not everyone will agree with every post and those disagreements will no doubt be clearly stated, but at the end of the day, this city needs and deserves a championship. This site is dedicated to providing analysis and opinion on what teams this city should expect to break the drought and as a result, deserve our support.
